Everyone has a story to tell. Whether you choose to share your story is up to you. If you've decided to share your story with others, you're about to embark on a life-changing adventure. It might be your life that changes and it might be someone's else's life that changes. It might be both. You won't know until your story is told. If your still not sure about sharing your story with others, here are four good reasons why you should.
Create Your Own Identity
It can be easy to feel lost in the shuffle, especially when your identity is completely entrenched in something bigger – such as family. To a certain extent, your identity is created by those who have had the biggest role in molding you into the person you are. When you tell your own personal story, you're able to create your own identity. You begin to see your own personality begin to take shape.
Empower You Against the Past
The past can be a brutal place to live, especially if it wasn't a particularly happy place. If you keep the past locked away, it can be difficult to move on. However, as you begin to tell your own story, you become empowered to push against the past. Telling your story allows you the opportunity to truly look at your past head-on and take stock of the events that forged you.
Telling your own story allows you to heal from events that have been traumatic or painful. By telling your story, you're able to engage all aspects of yourself, including your heart and your brain. Taking those painful events and sharing them with others will allow you to heal and move on with your life.
Allow the Exploration of Memories
When you store a memory, you may store the pertinent facts surrounding the event, but you might not store the emotions that went with the event. Writing your story down allows you to pull those memories out and recall the emotional experience that went along with it. As you write your story down, you'll find that you're able to recall pieces of the event that you thought were lost.
You have a story to tell. Don't keep it locked up inside of you. By sharing your story, you can help yourself achieve personal growth. You might also be able to help others through your own experiences. If you're interested in sharing your story, check out What I Need You To Know Is.
